Today at WWDC 2026, Apple introduced the next iteration of its iPhone software, iOS 27. iOS 27 brings several requested features to the iPhone, including changes to Liquid Glass, a new Siri, improvements to Apple Intelligence, and more.
In a surprising move, all iPhones that supported iOS 26 will also support iOS 27, including:
- iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16e
- iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17e
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
Notably, devices from September 2019, such as the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, powered by the A13 Bionic chip, also support iOS 27, despite several recent rumors indicating that they will drop support for these devices. The iPhone SE (2nd generation) is also supported, since it features the same A13 Bionic chipset. Although these older devices will not support any of the new Apple Intelligence and Siri features announced today, they will still benefit from the other useful new features, along with better performance.
According to Apple, “iPhone and iPad apps launch up to 30 percent faster,1 photos load up to 70 percent faster after being taken,2 and AirDrop transfers are up to 80 percent faster.3 During network transitions, moving between cellular and Wi-Fi networks is more seamless than ever, and browsing and transferring files between external drives and iPad is up to 5x faster — making it just as fast as Finder on Mac.4 In Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, the search experience has been rebuilt to make it more stable and efficient to help users find exactly what they are looking for. And in Mail, a completely new ranking system surfaces even more relevant results in Top Hits.”
The oldest iPhone models are going to benefit significantly from this change, and this is exactly the reason for Apple to still keep the iPhone 11 in the list of supported devices.
iOS 27 is set to be released alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series this fall. Are you thrilled about this new update? Show us your excitement down in the comments or tweet to us on @appleosophy!
