We’re just a month away from when we expect Apple to announce the highly anticipated iPhone Ultra, and rumors for the third-generation foldable have just started circulating. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, he stated in his weekly “Power On” newsletter that the second-generation foldable is expected to launch in 2027 with no major design changes. However, the third-generation foldable, expected to launch in 2028 at the earliest, will have even larger displays on both the inside and the outside.
To bring you up to speed, the upcoming iPhone Ultra, which is expected to make its debut next month alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, will feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner display. As you may know, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 recently, which gives tech enthusiasts an idea of what the iPhone Ultra could look like, as it will apparently feature a passport-like design. This should come as no surprise, as Samsung Display is one of Apple’s largest suppliers of OLED displays across many of its products. So if the third-generation iPhone Ultra were to have larger displays, then any screen size improvements are always welcome changes.
For now, the first iPhone Ultra is expected to feature the A20 or A20 Pro chip, Touch ID instead of Face ID, two rear cameras, a LiDAR scanner, and the C2 cellular modem. Based on a recent leak from the same source, the iPhone Ultra will likely come in two colors: silver and a darker indigo shade. The second-generation iPhone Ultra has already be approved for development according to the Weibo leaker who goes by “Digital Chat Station”, and that model is expected to make its debut in fall 2027 alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone.
