Luca Maestri is pulling back from Apple even more. He used to be the company’s CFO, and after he left that job, he stuck around to run a division called Corporate Services. Now he’s stepped away from that too.
This happened in the past few weeks. Bloomberg reported the news. Maestri still technically works at Apple, but there’s not much left for him to do. He teaches one class through Apple University. He shows up at the office maybe once a week. That’s basically it now.
Kevan Parekh is picking up the slack. Parekh became Apple’s CFO when Maestri gave up that role, and now he’s also taking charge of Corporate Services. So Parekh’s job just got bigger.
Corporate Services isn’t a small thing either. It covers information systems, tech infrastructure, security, and real estate. Someone has to run all of that, and it’s Parekh now.
Here’s an interesting detail. Maestri used to report to Tim Cook, who was CEO before John Ternus took over. Maestri doesn’t report to Ternus. That might matter more than it seems. Cook had a habit of keeping executives around after they stepped down, just in smaller roles. It let them ease out slowly instead of leaving all at once. Nobody knows yet if Ternus will keep doing that.
Maestri hasn’t officially left Apple. But look at the pattern here. First he ran the whole finance side of the company. Then he moved to Corporate Services. Now he’s teaching a class and dropping by once a week. Each step has been smaller than the last one. At this rate, it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s gone completely before long.
