According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has agreed on “iPhone Duo” as the name for its foldable iPhone, set to debut at its “Surprise and shine” special event tomorrow morning. Here’s what we know so far.
In a late-night report on the eve of the unveiling, Gurman says the foldable iPhone will be called “iPhone Duo” and will be priced at $2,000 USD for a 256 GB model. He adds, “The entry-level version will include 256 gigabytes of storage, with Apple offering higher-capacity versions that will take the price all the way up to roughly $3,000. Apple blew through its cost goals due to the recent memory shortage, so it’s eating some of the expense to keep it within reach of $2,000. It’s also passing the costs along to consumers who buy higher capacities.”
Gurman further adds that the iPhone Duo “will have a short-and-wide design that is ideal for watching video. It will also include Apple’s new in-house C2 modem and the A20 Pro chip, as well as the ability to run side-by-side apps and handle iPad-like multitasking. The phone will sport dual rear 48-megapixel cameras and a 12-megapixel one designed for videoconferencing. There will be a magnetic hinge system and support for the Apple Pencil stylus.”
To double down on the new design, case maker Dbrand officially leaked the entire design of the iPhone Duo, which is called iPhone Ultra on their website, when you look at their screen protectors. This, along with Gurman’s report, solidifies what we will see at tomorrow’s event.
The iPhone Duo is expected to go on sale as early as October and come in either white or dark blue, according to Gurman. Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event kicks off at 10 am PT.
