Apple yesterday announced the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 at its “Surprise and shine” event, along with the iPhone 18 Pro series, iPhone Duo, and AirPods 5. Both the new watches come with the S11 chip, which is a major upgrade over the previous S10 chip. The new chip allows for features such as Audio Intelligence on the Apple Watch, while supporting heart rate measurements every five seconds and more frequent HRV tracking.
To support intelligent features that work on-device, Apple has doubled the RAM to 4GB in the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, up from 2GB in the previous generations, according to information in Xcode 27 found by MacRumors.
To fully take advantage of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, you will still need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, with the iPhone 16 being the minimum requirement for some Audio Intelligence features such as Live Rewind and Siri Recap. You can read more about Audio Intelligence here.
In terms of pricing, the aluminium variants of the Apple Watch Series 12 start at $399 for 42mm and $449 for 46mm, with options to upgrade to Titanium and Ceramic case options. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799 for 49mm. Both watches can be pre-ordered now and will be available on September 18th.
