Five years deep into the transition of the Mac lineup to Apple Silicon, more Intel Macs are receiving vintage status.
The latest addition is the 21.5 inch iMac with Retina 4K Display from 2019. This closely follows three MacBook models receiving the distinction just a few weeks ago.
Apple deems products vintage when the company has stopped selling them for at least five years, but less than seven years. After that, they receive ‘obsolete’ status, which means that Apple discontinues all hardware services for those products and service providers can no longer order new parts. Vintage products are not completely unsupported, however; the iPhone 11 Pro series is deemed vintage, but will be supported through the iOS 27 update for at least the next year.
The company maintains a list of which products receive this distinction so users know whether they are still able to get repairs. This means that owners of these devices should get any needed repairs before it receives obsolete status.
This comes as Apple prepares to drop support for all Intel Macs. macOS 27 Golden Gate does not support any Intel Mac models, and Apple now allows developers to drop support for the Intel versions of their apps.
