Editorial: My Experience with Using Apple Pay at Target

Today was the first day I have been able to use Apple Pay at Target. You may have remembered that I wrote an article last week about this and that stores over the next few weeks should be rolling it out and making it available to all their stores.

I did try using Apple Pay at my Target store (in Sioux City, Iowa) last week, but it sadly did not work. I had to put the chip in my card in the reader and hope that I was not getting skimmed in some way.

However, today was a different story. Today, I walked in and picked up my usual, a Starbucks Frappuccino 4-pack, Pop Tarts and a Mountain Dew. Yes, it is not very healthy, but I do other things to counter off all that and make it so that even though it is bad for me, it’s not as bad for me. Also, I’m only 22 and my metabolism is still great!

Now, when I went to the self-checkout, I noticed that the card readers had the dots across the top and immediately thought”¦.THEY HAVE APPLE PAY NOW!

Once I got to the self-checkout register, I scanned my items, put them in the bag and then paid for them with Apple Pay on my Apple Watch. The register recognized my form of payment and everything went through as it should.

I checked the area after my transaction and found that all of the self-checkout and regular checkout lanes, and found that all of them have Apple Pay and NFC payment in general setup on them.

The only bad part from this old experience is that it did not have the payment screen that was said to be the screen for the future of payment at Target stores. Perhaps it could make an appearance eventually, but it is not there now as of this writing.

Be sure to go to your local Target store to see if it has Apple Pay there. If so, let us know in the comments below. You can additionally let us know through our Twitter account, which is @appleosophy.
