FX Plus is a subscription service that allowed for users to stream content from FX and FXX. This includes programs like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer and the entire Simpsons series.
The big reason FX is doing this is due to the Disney-20 Century FOX acquisition that occurred last year. Disney is launching Disney Plus this fall, which will include all previous seasons of The Simpsons, according to Variety.
Once FX Plus shuts down, on-demand programming from the networks (FX and FXX) will be available to stream on FXNow and the FX Networks website.
FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said this to Variety about FX Networks and their new relationship with Disney:
“The ability to support what Disney is working to do in terms of building large aggregators that can get to very substantial audiences ”” big distribution is really exciting and is a much more viable pathway for us than trying to scale up a single branded service.”
FXNow will shut down on August 20, 2019. If you subscribe to the service, you will not have to cancel it. Usability of the service will cease, as well as users paying for it. For those who get it through their cable/satellite provider, it will be taken off in your monthly bill automatically.
