Oprah Winfrey and Apple have partnered to to launch “Oprah’s Book Club,” a new series on Apple TV+.
Back in March, Oprah’s Book Club was teased at the Apple TV+ announcement. We will be getting new episodes every two months, where Winfrey will be interviewing selected authors all through the series.
In a press release, Oprah said that,
“I am who I am today because of the experience of learning to read at an early age. Reading opened up a whole world for me beyond the red dirt road and my grandmother’s porch in Mississippi. I want to do that for everybody. And the opportunity to do this with Apple, to speak to people all over the world about the pleasures, the excitement, the tension, the drama that a good book can bring you ”¦ I don’t know what’s better than that.
The only thing more thrilling than being captivated by a book is being able to share it with others. Which is why I’m excited to bring @oprahsbookclub to @apple starting TODAY! My first pick, The Water Dancer by the brilliant Ta-Nehisi Coates. It will enthrall you. #ReadwithUs pic.twitter.com/DG99kTKrWu

From a more financial perspective, Oprah’s Book Club TV series will be mutually helpful to both sides. Apple supports choices for Oprah Book Club in its Apple Books application, where for instance, “The Water Dancer” is now available as either an e-book or an audio-book. This and other titles, which could increase book sales, will then be helpful to the television show & vice versa.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said,
“Few people in the world can bring us together like Oprah, whose compassion and grace celebrating the power of books are unmatched. It’s our honor to provide a new platform for Oprah’s Book Club and support the American Library Association in opening hearts and minds to the joy of reading.
Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month and will be available in 100 countries and regions at launch. Customers who buy a new Apple device will also get a free year of Apple TV+.
