Premiere of the Apple TV+ Movie “The Banker” has been cancelled because over ‘concerns’

Apple cancelled The Banker’s premiere, which was set to debut during AFI Fest’s closing night.

Apple hopes its new streaming service will make a splash Read more The Banker is based on the true-life story of two black entrepreneurs who amassed a fortune by pretending that their company was run by a white man, and features top names including Samuel L Jackson and Marvel star Anthony Mackie.

The film was set to premiere as the closing film for the festival on Thursday night.

“Last week some concerns surrounding the film were brought to our attention,” Apple told AFP in a statement.

“We, along with the filmmakers, need some time to look into these matters and determine the best next steps. In light of this, we are no longer premiering The Banker at AFI Fest.” Apple did not specify the nature of the concerns.

However, Hollywood trade reports linked the cancellation to allegations made about the film by Bernard Garrett’s relative, one of the businessmen portrayed in the movie.

Marriage Story, the Oscar-tipped drama featuring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver will fill the film’s Thursday night slot at the American Film Institute (AFI) festival.
