Twitter has been making a lot of changes to its new Twitter for Mac app that was released just this past fall. It’s part of Apple’s Mac Catalyst program. The design of it is a lot like the Twitter for iPad app.

Apple discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro without the TouchBar last summer and recently discontinued the 15-inch MacBook Pro that also had the TouchBar right before the end of 2019.

This new update comes from Version 8.5 that now includes support for the TouchBar. Apple’s MacBook Pro for the 13, 15 and 16-inch models have the TouchBar on it.

Version 8.5 includes the following changes and improvements:

  • Improved: added TouchBar support
  • Improved: click on playback timeline of video to jump to that point of the video
  • Fixed: opening help center will open in browser
  • Fixed: memory leak from conversations that get threaded together

The image below (via 9to5Mac) shows what the app looks like when opened on the TouchBar.

As you can see, it shows in the left-corner that users can tap that and compose a new tweet. Additionally, on the right side, you can see a button that enables users to choose how new or old the tweets they see on their timeline are.

We look forward to seeing what features are added in the future to Twitter for Mac. It has some potential and is already making a good free Twitter app in the Mac App Store for people who do not want to purchase a third-party premium one like Tweetbot or Twitterrific.

Twitter for Mac is a free app in the Mac App Store and can be downloaded here.
