In early April, Apple asked their engineers and suppliers to construct face shields for medical workers around the world. Now Apple has now shipped a total of 7.5 million face shields to front line workers during the pandemic.
Tim Cook announced the news during today’s earnings call following the release of the second quarter results of 2020. Apple is continuing to construct and ship 1 million face shields each week. Cook also said that Apple’s COVID-19 screening app has been downloaded more than 2 million times and the website has been visited by more than 3 million times.
As well as constructing face shields, Apple has sourced and donated over 20 million N95 masks to frontline works and healthcare workers around the world. Apple has also donated millions, to various causes dedicated to slowing and stopping the spread as well as developing an exposure notification API.
