Apple announced iPhone 12 during its October Special Event. iPhone 12 Series comes with groundbreaking new technologies like LiDAR, Sensor Shift and more. Apple had heavily focused on 5G for this year’s iPhone. According to Counterpoint Research, iPhone 12 had surpassed all the competition to become the top 5G phone in terms of global shipments.Â
According to the report iPhone 12 series is likely to remain in demand during the end of Q4 2020, especially during the festive season in December. iPhone 12 Pro, the more premium flagship out of the two, had secured second place among other 5G contenders. iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro had combined secured 25% of total 5G smartphone sales in the month of October.
“This is a big achievement, considering the new iPhone series was available for only two weeks in October. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, which was the best-selling 5G device in September, slipped to the third position.” said Counterpoint research.
The demand for 5G has seen a major bump, likely due to the carrier deals and benefits, especially in the US where 5G has gained the most momentum. “This was complemented by strong carrier promos, especially in the US, which accounted for over one-third of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro sales for the month. All carriers were offering the iPhone 12 for $0 through a mix of the trade-in and unlimited plans.” said Counterpoint research.
iPhone 12 has been driving Apple’s increasing market share in the 5G market, now reaching 24 percent. The sales in the premium segment is expected to increase the global average sales price, the research company said in a note.
Apple does not reveal its global shipment numbers for iPhones. This report is based on vigorous market research, however a margin of error is always present.
