Just one week ahead of Apple’s Far Out special event, new rumors and reports are swirling around the final details of the iPhone 14 series, particularly the 14 Pros ”“ It seems that the display on the pro models will show one wide pill instead of an “i” shaped cutout design.

The reports begin with MacRumors as they cite an anonymous leaker on Wednesday claiming that the cutout shapes are not “visually separated” when the screen is turned on, instead, it is one long wide pill shape that houses the front-facing camera and the Face ID sensors.

Instead of showing a hole-punch shape, Apple will turn off the pixels separating the cutouts in order to make it less distracting when looking at it. This will result in viewing a dark software gap between the sensors. Another interesting note is that Apple will later expand the blacked-out areas to fill in specific content.

“In another intriguing twist, the tipster also claims that Apple intends to visually expand the blacked-out areas around the cutouts to host content. For example, Apple could make the area slightly wider to fit status icons on the left and right sides, or even extend it downward into a large rounded square when delivering certain notifications.”

Hours later, reliable analyst and reporter Mark Gurman of Bloomberg confirmed that Apple is indeed planning to design the iPhone 14 Pro this way. Stated on Twitter that the two cutouts “look like one wide pill shaped cutout” and that having them separated will “look odd”.

We will see if everything said will be true or not next week when Apple’s Far Out event is held on Wednesday, September 7 at 10 a.m. PT. Products expected to be unveiled at the event include the iPhone 14 series and the Apple Watch Series 8 series, including the rumored rugged “Apple Watch Pro”.

The iPhone 14 lineup will feature a refreshed design, a 48MP camera system, 8K video, potentially a full eSIM variant, and 8GB of RAM ”“ the highest ever on any iPhone. Appleosophy reported this week that the Cupertino-based giant is likely partnering with Concentrix to bring dispatching services for an upcoming satellite text communication feature.
