Previously, rumors were indicating that the next-generation iPhone SE would debut as early as this year; however, Ming-Chi Kuo had said that Apple had abandoned its plans to develop an all-new model. Surprisingly, according to him, it appears that Apple has restarted development for that model, and it’s going to be bigger than ever (literally).
Apple introduced the current iPhone SE (3rd generation) back in March 2022; however, while the higher-end models have a more modern all-screen design, the top/bottom bezels and Home Button have remained on the SE for years. Not to mention that it has a smaller 4.7-inch LCD display. In fact, its design was based on the iPhone 8’s. Now, we can expect even bigger changes for the upcoming model.
For starters, Kuo reports that the SE 4 will feature a larger 6.1-inch OLED display, which will be the same one that’s found on the standard iPhone 14. That means we could see an all-screen design with thinner bezels that is similar to the existing iPhone 14 line. The current iPhone SE at $429 has been criticized for having a dated design despite its modern specs compared to its competitors that offer a more modern design within that price range. More notably, the SE 4 will pioneer Apple’s custom-designed 5G modem. While all of the current iPhone models have supported 5G, they’re actually using Qualcomm’s custom Snapdragon X57 chip.
Although the release date has yet to be determined, it’s logical that the iPhone SE 4 will debut as early as March 2024, given the traditional two-year cycle for the iPhone SE. Historically, the iPhone SE 2 was introduced in April 2020, and the SE 3 was introduced in March 2022.
