Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple plans to release a new charging case for the AirPods Pro (2nd generation), featuring a new USB-C port. This addition comes after developers discovered references to a new AirPods model in iOS 16.4.
According to @aaronp613 on Twitter, references to a new AirPods model (A3048) and a new AirPods case (A2968) were found. Following Aaron’s tweet, Kuo confirmed that Apple plans to release an updated case for the AirPods Pro (2nd generation), featuring USB-C, during the second and third quarters of this year which corresponds to the timeframe from April to September 2023.
I think this is likely the USB-C version of the AirPods Pro 2, with mass shipments expected in 2Q23-3Q23. By the way, Apple currently appears to have no plans for USB-C versions of the AirPods 2 & 3.

The switch from Lightning to USB-C is in line with the European Union’s timeline, which requires all devices to use USB-C. Therefore, the upcoming iPhone 15 is likely to come with the new port, and that’s why Apple is updating its accessories, including the Apple TV remote.
