Apple has started rolling out the eighth developer beta of watchOS 10 with essential bug fixes, according to Apple’s Developer Webpage. This update comes one week after the release of the seventh beta of watchOS 10. We can expect the sixth Public Beta for watchOS 10 to be released within the next 24 Hours.

As the next Apple Event is set to take place on September 12th at 10 a.m. P.T., Apple has recently shifted to a weekly release schedule for the betas from a bi-weekly one to prepare and polish the software for the final launch. These could very well be one of the last betas before the Release Candidate version is released.

At WWDC 2023 held in June, Apple announced watchOS 10 with a new Design Language, changes to Navigation, New Watch Faces, Last Cellular Connection Waypoint, calorimetry for e-biking, Fall Detection, and advanced new metrics for cycling.

In addition to these features, users can also use the Digital Crown on their Apple Watch to log their momentary emotions and daily moods in the Mindfulness app. Using the Ambient Light Sensor on the Watch, it can now measure time spent in daylight as well.

The build number of this update is 21R5355a and you can expect the size of the update to be around 150 MB – 300 MB on your Apple Watch. The size of the update depends upon the Apple Watch model that you have and the software version you’re updating from. The letter ‘a’ at the end of the build number signifies that this could be one of the last beta updates to watchOS 10 before the Release Candidate version. The Release Notes for this update contain a list of several resolved issues, which is another sign of the software being close to its final release.

Users who are registered as a developer on can opt-in to receive beta updates by going into the Watch App on their iPhone and navigating to My Watch>General>Software Update>Beta Updates and selecting watchOS 10 Developer Beta. Do note that this version is not stable and is meant for testing purposes.
Users can also sign up as a Public Beta Tester for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 Sonoma, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 on to install the beta software.

watchOS 10 is compatible with the following Apple Watch models:

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch SE (1st generation and 2nd generation)
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra

Additionally, users will also need to have iPhone XS, iPhone XR or later running iOS 17 in order to update to watchOS 10.

Along with watchOS 10 Beta 8, Apple also released the eighth developer betas of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and tvOS 17. The final versions of these will most likely be released to the public in September, a few days after Apple’s “Wonderlust” Event. The third developer beta of visionOS 1.0 was also released today, the final version of which is expected to be released early next year along with Apple Vision Pro.
