When Apple introduced its iPhone 15 lineup with USB-C for the first time on an iPhone, the company also updated its most popular AirPods Pro with a new charging case that charges via USB-C (and MagSafe). What you may not know is that the updated AirPods 2 will bring two more features.
As stated in a press release, the updated AirPods Pro 2nd-generation will officially support lossless audio when paired with Vision Pro, which will be released early next year. This comes as a surprise for many users since none of the AirPods models supports lossless audio as of now, even the AirPods Max when connected via the 3.5 mm to Lightning cable. This is due to the current limitations of Bluetooth 5.0 found in the standard AirPods 3rd-generation and AirPods Max. Now thanks to the major improvements in Bluetooth 5.3, it’s all going to change for the AirPods Pro 2 starting next year.
Apple also says that the updated AirPods Pro has an improved IP54-rated dust resistance for both the earbuds and the case.
The updated AirPods Pro with the USB-C charging case is available to order today at $249, and it will be available to customers starting September 22. Please note that Apple will not sell the USB-C charging case separately, and therefore, Apple has discontinued the AirPods Pro 2 with the Lightning/MagSafe charging case. Both the standard AirPods 3 and AirPods Max have not been updated with the USB-C port, not to mention that the AirPods Max has not seen an update in almost three years, and only the AirPods Pro 2 will have all of the audio features introduced at WWDC 2023.
