iOS 17’s AirPlay to Hotel Room Delayed until 2024

Although Apple has made many new iOS features available on day one of its public release, there has been some cases where a few major features were delayed until a later software update. For instance, SharePlay, which was introduced in iOS 15, wasn’t available until iOS 15.1. This year’s major iOS revision is no exception.

Back in WWDC 2023, iOS 17 introduced the “AirPlay in Hotel Room” feature, and back then Apple said that this feature would be coming this year on its website. However, now that iOS 17.2 has been out to the public today, Apple has updated its website to indicate that this feature would be “coming in an update in 2024.” The most likely timeframe would be in the spring 2024, when Apple could introduce new iPad and MacBook Air models and release iOS/iPadOS 17.3.

Using “AirPlay in Hotel Room” would enable users to stream their content from their iPhone to a hotel room TV by scanning a QR code on that TV. According to Apple, Holiday Inn owner IHG Hotels & Resorts will be one of the first hotel companies to pioneer this feature, with LG as one of the first hotel room TV manufacturers to support this feature.

This feature will be great for families who are traveling on vacation or employees going on business trips when they won’t need to connect their laptops with an HDMI cable.
