Apple Pay

2023 was a good year for Apple Pay, especially with the popular home improvement store Lowe’s getting support for it in its app, as well as in its stores later on in the year.

Menard’s, which is another major home improvement retail chain based in Wisconsin with stores all throughout the Midwest, along with the northwestern and northeastern parts of the country, did begin accepting Apple Pay in its stores too.

Other stores included Harris Teeter and other Kroger-owned grocery stores (on top of regular Kroger grocery stores) that finally started accepting Apple Pay in its stores. AMC Theaters was another prominent company that began accepting Apple Pay as well.

But now that we are in 2024, we have to think about the future of Apple Pay. After all, later this year, it will be 10 years since Apple Pay was originally unveiled and launched in the U.S.

With that said, here are some businesses in the U.S. that still do not accept Apple Pay as of January 2024:

  • Home Depot
  • Hobby Lobby (only available in its app but not its retail stores)
  • Walmart
  • Amazon
  • H-E-B
  • Cabela’s & Bass Pro Shops

Thankfully, the list has gotten shorter and shorter through the years, which does show American companies have learned to embrace and accept Apple Pay as a valid form of payment.

What are your thoughts on our list above? Are there some companies that we missed? Comment below or let us know on X at @appleosophy.
