If you’re planning to spend a fortune on the Vision Pro, you may want to think twice about how often you would misplace your items. Unlike Apple’s other products, Apple has confirmed in its support article that the Vision Pro does not support Find My tracking from the app on another Apple device or on iCloud.com. Instead, it supports only Activation Lock, which prevents a thief from erasing a lost Vision Pro and setting it up as their own unless they know the Apple ID and password.
“When you turn on Find My, you protect your Vision Pro with Activation Lock ”” but you can’t use another Apple device or the web to find Vision Pro on a map, play a sound to help find it, turn on Lost Mode, or remotely erase it.” -Apple.
This omission is quite a bummer for an Apple product that starts at $3,500. Sure you’ll likely use the unit at home, so it’s safer; but if you were to travel with it, and you happen to misplace it or a thief snatches it from you, then you’ll likely have to deal with a lot of stress from filing a police report to trying to claim insurance. To add insult to injury, Apple does not provide an AppleCare+ Theft and Loss plan for its newest product at this time.
One possible solution is to put an AirTag inside Apple’s Traveling Case for Vision Pro, which is priced at a whopping $199. We’ll certainly see other accessory makers provide similar solutions as well.
