The iPhone SE was last updated two years ago with the A15 Bionic chip, which was the latest chip that was also used in the iPhone 13 models at the time. However, it’s getting rather long in the tooth as it’s been using the same design as the iPhone 8 from 2017 with its top/bottom bezels, Home button, and traditional LCD panel.

We heard a few rumors that development for the next-generation iPhone SE was canceled or on hold; however, it seems that Apple is resuming development again. According to IT Home, Apple supplier BOE is now planning to be the lead supplier for the OLED panels that are going to be for the upcoming smartphone.

The biggest feature of the iPhone SE is its relatively low starting price. To keep costs low, Apple always uses legacy parts from previous generation models as they are now cheaper to produce, and those components will save further R&D expenses for Apple. With that said, the next iPhone SE is expected to get an overdue makeover, and its design will likely be based on the iPhone 14’s design. It’s expected to feature Face ID, a USB-C port, an Action button, and a more modern edge-to-edge 6.1-inch OLED panel that ditches the Home button.

The iPhone SE has always been priced competitively against low- to mid-range Android phones as it features the core iOS experience. The next iPhone SE will certainly be a better value than it is now; however, a report indicates that it may depreciate faster than even Apple’s flagship models.
