Apple introduced iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia at its annual WWDC earlier this month, two of the biggest features that the company introduced were iPhone Mirroring and Screen Sharing via SharePlay. Apple also pushed out its first developer betas for those platforms that same day; however, developers were quick to discover that those two features were not available to try.
However, Apple released the second betas for those platforms yesterday which enabled those features for the first time. iPhone Mirroring lets Mac users access and control everything on their iPhone from their Mac, including accessing notifications and apps on iPhone. This will be essentially useful when their iPhone is out of reach. This feature requires both of the following:
- A Mac model with Apple Silicon, or an Intel-based Mac model with a T2 security chip.
- iPhone model running iOS 18.
SharePlay Screen Sharing will also be a useful feature to allow users to assist their family members on how to access software-based features and actions on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac by taking over other people’s screens similar to how Teams have implemented.
It’s still worth noting that Apple has announced that these two features, along with Apple Intelligence, won’t be available in the European Union due to concerns related to the Digital Markets Act.
The public beta for those software platforms will likely come next month, followed by their public releases around September when Apple introduces the next-generation iPhone 16 lineup.
