With football season literally right around the corner, the price of the new Venu Sports live TV streaming service has been announced to the public.
The monthly price for this new streaming service looks like it will be $42.99 a month after a seven-day free trial. Venu Sports is a joint venture between FOX Sports, Disney, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
No official launch date has been said yet but it has been stated that the plan is to release the streaming service this fall. The target consumers for Venu Sports are sports fan, specifically those that are looking to save money on watching live sports, while also not having for a traditional TV provider.
Pete Distad, CEO of Venu Sports, said this streaming service is being built for true sports fans.
“With an impressive portfolio of sports programming, Venu will provide sports fans in the U.S. with a single destination for watching many of the most sought-after games and events,” he said. “We’re building Venu from the ground up for fans who want seamless access to watch the sports they love, and we will launch at a compelling price point that will appeal to the cord cutter and cord never fans currently not served by existing pay TV packages.”
Channels that are said to be included in Venu Sports are the following: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, FOX, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV, and ESPN+. There will be the option to bundle the service with other streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, and MAX.
Sporting events that will be able to be viewed from Venu Sports include “NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, WNBA, NCAA Division I football and basketball, U.S. and international soccer, combat sports, Grand Slam tennis, championship golf, INDYCAR, NASCAR and F1 auto racing, and more.”
When it comes to on-demand content, it said Venu Sports will have “30 for 30 library, ESPN+ Originals, ESPN Films, documentary programming from Fox Sports Films, and more.”
Venu Sports’ app has yet to be released to the public. Part of this is due to the wording on the official Venu Sports website that states, “Launch is conditional on receiving regulatory approval and is expected for Fall 2024.”
A preliminary hearing regarding the streaming service will be happening in New York on August 7, according to Sportico. This is due to a complaint that fuboTV had placed earlier this year.
The complaint is against FOX, Disney, and WBD and essentially says that with the launch of Venu Sports, it could be seen as anticompetitive since the three companies are launching their own live TV streaming service, which might then not give the companies as much of an incentive to give good and fair channel price packages to TV providers such as fuboTV and others.
However, the three companies have denied that assumption and that fuboTV is simply trying to “insulate itself from competition.”
