The latest beta of iOS 18.2 has been pushed out for developers. Aside from more Apple Intelligence features like Gemoji and Image Playground, 9to5Mac spotted references to a new “BatteryIntelligence” framework. Whenever Apple enables that framework as soon as iOS 18.2 is released to the public, customers may be able to check the estimates on how long it will take to charge their iPhones.
Over the past year or so, Apple has been implementing several new enhancements to allow users to fully optimize their charging habits to maintain the iPhone battery’s overall health. On iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models, Apple added Cycle Count and new charging limits between 80% to 100% in intervals of 5%. To help optimize charging even further, iOS 18 can also notify users when they’re charging their iPhones using a slower-than-optimal charger.
Only time will tell whether this feature will make it to the final public release of iOS 18.2, but it’ll be more than a welcome change that’s similar to what we’ve had with the MacBooks. For the iPhone, I sure hope Apple makes use of the Dynamic Island further to indicate the charging estimates. For now, all signs point to the first week of December for the public release of iOS 18.2.
