Apple is reportedly developing a new MacBook powered by an A18 Pro chip, a detail uncovered in backend code first spotted by MacRumors. This would mark a significant shift, as all previous Apple silicon Macs have utilized the M-series chips.

Earlier today, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that Apple plans to launch a low-cost MacBook featuring an iPhone chip. This rumored device is expected to come with a 13-inch display and be available in various colors, including silver, blue, pink, and yellow. MacRumors independently confirmed evidence of this device, identified as “Mac17,1,” in Apple Intelligence-related backend code last summer, verifying its use of the A18 Pro chip.

The A18 Pro chip first appeared in the iPhone 16 Pro last year. While M-series chips typically offer more cores, greater memory support, and enhanced external display capabilities, this new MacBook would be the first to integrate an iPhone chip.

According to Kuo, mass production for this new MacBook is anticipated to begin late in the fourth quarter of 2025 or early in the first quarter of 2026, pointing to a launch in the first half of next year.
