Apple has expanded Tap to Pay on iPhone to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Monaco, and Norway, letting millions of merchants accept contactless payments using only an iPhone and a supported iOS app — no extra card reader required.
Starting today, merchants in the five newly added markets can take payments from contactless credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets directly on an iPhone. The rollout arrives through local payment platforms and networks, so businesses can switch on Tap to Pay inside partner apps they already use.
Country-by-country availability:
-
Estonia: SumUp, Revolut
-
Latvia: SumUp
-
Lithuania: SumUp, Revolut
-
Monaco: Adyen, BNP Paribas
-
Norway: Adyen, Nexi, PayPal, Stripe, SumUp, Surfboard Payments, Viva.com (with BankAxept support in Norway via Surfboard Payments)
With today’s expansion, Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in 43 countries and regions worldwide.
Any business with an iPhone XS or later running the latest iOS can accept an in-person contactless payment by prompting the customer to hold their card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible wallet near the merchant’s iPhone. The transaction completes over NFC, with no additional hardware needed.
For cafés, pop-ups, taxis, and service professionals, the ability to go reader-free lowers costs and removes friction at checkout. Because Tap to Pay arrives through existing platforms, many merchants can enable it in minutes inside their point-of-sale apps, rather than adopting a new system.
