Yesterday, Apple announced the latest subscription bundle of its creativity apps, Apple Creator Studio, which is its own take on Adobe Creative Cloud. As you can imagine, some of you may already have Final Cut Pro or Pixelmator Pro on your Mac, so you could think of skipping out on paying monthly/yearly for that subscription, right? Well, you may have to think twice; just because Apple offers a one-time purchase of those apps, that does not necessarily mean they will have the same features as the subscription version. That may be why Apple had to explicitly differentiate “Apple Creator Studio” versions from one-time purchase versions of those applications in the footnotes of yesterday’s press release.
Furthermore, if you head to Final Cut Pro’s FAQ section, it states that “access to some of the premium content is available only to Apple Creator Studio subscribers. If you already own Final Cut Pro, it will continue to be updated.” This suggests that Apple’s upcoming AI-powered features coming to Final Cut Pro may be exclusive to only Apple Creator Studio subscribers. Additionally, there’s also a difference between the one-time purchase version and the subscription version of Pixelmator Pro. In that app’s FAQ section, it mentions that the Warp Tool feature will be exclusive to the Apple Creator Studio subscribers. Thankfully, if you’re a Logic Pro or MainStage user, both the subscription version and the one-time purchase of those apps will have access to the same features. Last, but not least, Apple’s productivity-focused apps: Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform will continue to be free for all users, but those who are interested in using the premium templates, the wide library of royalty-free media, and AI-powered features will need to subscribe to Apple Creator Studio.
For more details about Apple’s newest subscription, Apple has a dedicated page to showcase its latest bundle, along with an FAQ section. New subscribers will have a one-month free trial, and they can either pay $12.99 per month or $129 per year to continue using the bundle. If you’re either a college student or an educator, you’re also eligible for a one-month free trial, then it will be either $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year. If you purchase either a new iPad or Mac, you can get three months free of Apple Creator Studio, so it’s an incredible deal for any aspiring content creators.
