It’s no secret that Apple’s long-rumored entry-level MacBook will likely come in several fun colors, as Mark Gurman from Bloomberg stated that Apple tested a variety of hues for this upcoming laptop, but what you may not know is that Apple previously tested those color options as far back as around 2022. According to Weibo leaker Instant Digital, who also suggested that the new entry-level MacBook could come in light yellow, light green, and blue, Apple previously tested those color options for the MacBook Air redesign, which saw its debut on the M2 MacBook Air at WWDC 2022.

Come to think of it, this would actually make sense, as you may have remembered previous rumors from as far back as 2021, including this report from Front Tech Page’s Jon Prosser that the redesigned MacBook Air could come in a wide array of colors, similar to those of the 24-inch iMac back then. Prosser even shared several concepts in his video on what the MacBook Air could look like with vibrant hues and white bezels.

Of course, when Apple introduced the M2 MacBook Air with the new design, those colors never came to fruition. Instead, it came in rather subtle hues: silver, space gray, starlight, and midnight. With the M4 MacBook Air last March, Apple switched the space gray option in favor of the new sky blue option, but that blue color was pale. It’s unclear why Apple never opted to bring the fun color options to the MacBook Air, but I’m guessing that Apple considers the MacBook Air as a “semi-Pro” product, similar to how the iPad Air is compared to the iPad Pro. Since the base iPad offers more vibrant, playful colors, the upcoming entry-level MacBook should receive the same treatment.

Anyways, we’re less than two weeks until we can expect Apple to revive this moniker-less “MacBook” and see what the final color options will be.
