Have you ever wanted to stream video on a CarPlay-enabled vehicle? That has always been a dream. With the recently released beta of iOS 26.4, it looks like that dream is starting to become a reality.
To bring you up to speed, Apple informed developers at WWDC 2025 that iOS 26 would bring support for video playback in the vehicle via CarPlay. Similar to how it’s implemented when watching content (such as Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) on Tesla, the vehicle must be parked in order to playback video via CarPlay. It’s ultimately up to the automakers on whether they want to enable video playback. Now that the first beta of iOS 26.4 has been out, developers were quick to notice several code references to this upcoming feature.
Lucky for developer Thomas Dye, he was able to do some tinkering by unlocking some UI elements and creating some sort of CarPlay simulator “sandbox” environment. You should check out his video below.
All in all, this is a feature that regular CarPlay users have been waiting for, as Tesla has had some sort of video playback feature for years. To address many Tesla customers’ #1 request, Tesla is currently working on integrating CarPlay support in its EVs (electric vehicles). This is going to be huge for the EV industry as Apple notably abandoned plans to develop its own autonomous vehicle. So, integrating CarPlay in Tesla vehicles will allow for an even tighter integration between iPhone and Tesla. It would be much like having an Apple TV hooked up to any smart TV to allow for seamless integration across multiple Apple devices (and HomeKit accessories) that you own, since Apple never plans to develop its own smart TV.
Will you be trying out video playback on CarPlay once it arrives? Sound off in the comments below.
