First Impressions: Using an HDTV from 2007 for a week in 2020

Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to be able to acquire a “new” HDTV. This is a 50-inch VIZIO P50HDTV10A and when it was first released.

I have been using it over the last week and I have to say that for 2007…this is quite an interesting TV to have.

This TV does have a massive number of ports, including two HDMI ports, two sets of composite ports, an RGB port and two ethernet ports. I believe it was during a time when the TV industry was a huge question mark as for what the future of it would be.

In terms of the picture quality, since I’m not one who focuses on things like 4K content, this is actually not bad. When I’m watching content in HD like “Last Man Standing” on Hulu or “The Big Bang Theory” on HBO Max, I have no issues with the video quality from the TV.

Along with good picture quality, the audio is clear too, not that I’m an audiophile or anything. The sound comes from the soundbar in the middle of the front of the TV, so you don’t have that audio coming from the back of it. Just as it should be.

There are a couple of issues I have had with the TV.

The first is that even though I have an Apple TV and the audio comes out fine on it, the same cannot be said for my 2008 PlayStation 3. Yes, it is an older one, but when playing games on it, I have no sound.

I personally don’t mind this too much because I can either play music from Apple Music or a podcast from my HomePod while I play my video games.

Another issue I have with the TV is it makes a slight high pitch sound when it is on. It does not do this during the entire duration I have the TV, but it can get annoying during its beginning stages.

Other than those two problems, I would say that I like this TV a lot. The size is great and it fits my living rooms and TV-watching arrangement nicely.

In the meantime, stay tuned for the full review.
