It’s the end of an era ”“ the most colorful iPhone ever, is now considered vintage. This week, Apple updated their list of vintage and obsolete products to now include the iPhone 5c.

The iPhone 5c originally launched alongside the more powerful iPhone 5s back on September 10th, 2013, and featured an Apple A6 processor, 4-inch Retina display, and shipped with iOS 7.

The iPhone 5c was essentially an iPhone 5, but encased in a colorful polycarbonate shell. It also didn’t feature the more powerful A7 64-bit processor like the iPhone 5s, nor did it get Touch ID or the M7 motion co-processor. The standard 16 GB model sold for $99 compared to $199 for the 5s.

Apple describes a vintage device as “not being sold for more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.” Apple also states that “vintage products will continue to receive hardware service from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores, subject to availability of inventory, or as required by law.”

The iPhone 5c will become obsolete in 2022, meaning that it’ll no longer be able to receive any hardware service or repair. The iPhone 5s will not suffer the same fate as the 5c, at least not yet, because it was sold for a longer period of time compared to the 5c.
