Apple did have what will likely be its last product launch event of the year and the company did not hold back.
First of all, this was probably one of the quickest events the company has ever had, timing out at around 45 minutes. You could say that Apple pulled a Twitter and not a Facebook; it got to the point.
As for the actual products announced, the first one was the new 13-inch MacBook Air. It was the first of the new devices announced today and is one of the first Macs to have Apple’s new silicon Apple M1 processor.
What makes this new MacBook great is the battery is set to last up to 18 hours on a single charge. Customers can get up to 16GB of RAM on it and 2TB of SSD storage. With that said, the SSD is two times faster than the previous model and nine times faster when it comes to machine learning.
The CPU on it will be three and a half times faster than the previous MacBook Air and have up to five times quicker graphics as well.
Other improvements make it so it has WiFi 6, Thunderbolt 4 and have its Touch ID sensor.
The new MacBook Air with Apple’s new silicon M1 processor will start at $999 and $899 with the Apple Education discount.
We also saw updates to the MacBook Pro. The battery on it will last up to 17 hours. Additionally, the laptop can play 20 hours of videos, which is 10 hours longer than the previous model. The GPS will be five times faster, a nearly three times faster CPU and include a FaceTime HD camera too.
Other improvements are 11 times faster machine learning.
The new MacBook Pro will start at $1,299 and $1,199 with the Apple Education discount.
Finally, the last update for the Mac line today was, surprisingly, the Mac Mini.
The new Mac Mini will have updates such as the new silicon Apple M1 processor, being 60 percent more power-efficient, three times faster CPU, six times faster graphics, 15 times faster machine learning and support for 6K external monitors.
Best of all, the new Mac Mini with its new processor and upgrades only costs $699. However, there is no education discount on this computer.
All of the computers mentioned during the event can be ordered through Apple’s website now and will be available next week.
Apple did also announce that macOS Big Sur will be available to download and install on Thursday, November 12.
