Last Friday, Apple made its biggest addition to Apple Arcade by adding two new and important categories – Timeless Classics and App Store Greats. These newest additions bring at least 30 games for you to play without any ads or in-app purchases.

With Timeless Classics, chances are that players will love to play these games that they would remember playing from earlier generations. These most nostalgic games will never go out of style. These titles include “Good Sudoku by Zach Gage,” “Chess – Play & Learn,” and “Solitaire by MobilityWare.”

With App Store Greats, players will find some of the greatest hits from today’s most widely acclaimed gaming franchises/brands. These eye-catching titles include “Monument Valley,” “Mini Metro,” and “Fruit Ninja Classic.”

The Right Move For Apple

As you may know, Apple’s services aren’t really taking off in general. Consider Apple TV+ as an example. The number of subscribers for Apple TV+ is a bit lacking compared to other competitors such as Netflix and Disney+. The competition just got even bigger with the launch of Paramount+. The issue is that Apple only offers originals rather than classics. I believe the next step for Apple to attract more customers is to add more nostalgic/classic content. Apple is slowly taking this approach by bringing “Peanuts” TV specials to its streaming service such as “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.”

I remember playing some of these classic favorites from my teen years such as “Cut the Rope” and “Fruit Ninja.” When I first tried out Apple Arcade, I was disappointed by the limited number of games they offered at launch. With these familiar titles added, I might give Apple Arcade a second try. By adding these favorites to Apple Arcade, Apple is giving customers even more reasons to subscribe to Apple Arcade. Thus, it’s a winning solution for customers play several games at a super low monthly rate.

Pricing

Apple Arcade offers a one-month free trial for new subscribers. It costs $4.99/month or $49.99/year after the free trial ends. It’s available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. Customers who bought any of these devices new are eligible for Apple Arcade free for three months. Alternatively, customers can use Apple One, which includes Apple Arcade.

Conclusion

With the biggest addition happening to Apple Arcade, Apple appears to have a win-win solution here. However, there’s a small demographic that customers prefer to purchase games one-time without worrying about paying monthly/yearly. What do you think about this new strategy from Apple? Do you prefer monthly/yearly subscriptions (Apple Music) or one-time large purchase (e.g. Final Cut Pro)? Let us know in the comments below, or tweet us at @Appleosophy.
