Yelp has been a very popular app that helps people travels to several sites based on users’ reviews and photos. It now looks like Apple is gearings travels to use its own Maps app as an improved alternative to Yelp.

With this new feature called “Ratings and Photos”, users can give ratings for noteworthy points of interest such as restaurants, retail stores, and parks. When customers use browse through Maps listings, they’ll see a birds-eye glance of ratings and reviews. Apple Maps also let users give feedback on various locations bases on several categories with a “like/dislike” method.

Not only they can rate locations, but also, they can upload photos, though text reviews aren’t supported. Along with ratings, Map cards provide essential information like opening hours, cost, and wheelchair accessibility. With privacy in mind, other Maps users won’t be able to see who provided those personal recommendations or photos, only the poster can views those that are linked to his/her Apple ID.

It’s still a work in process when it comes to rolling out this feature and improving Maps as third-party services such as TripAdvisor provide photos for now.
