Apple has canceled its plans to release a new iPad Air with OLED display in 2022 due to quality and cost concerns, that’s what Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated.

In an investor note acquired by MacRumors, Kuo is stating that Apple has canceled its plans to launch an updated iPad Air with an OLED display due to problems regarding quality and costs, with performances “not meeting expectations”.

Some earlier reports showed that Apple will release an updated iPad Air with a better OLED display. The current iPad Air features a 10.9-inch 60Hz LCD display:

“According to the Elec, Apple is gearing up to launch an iPad with a 10.86-inch OLED display as early as 2022, most likely branded as ‘iPad Air,’ as the Air already sports the exact display size. Afterward, Apple is planning to launch both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros with OLED displays the following year.”

Kuo also notes that the Cupertino-based giant will stay with LCD displays when it comes to iPad Air until their development and research for better displays ends. Apple’s latest screen upgrade to the iPad is Mini-LED on the iPad Pro.

Mini-LEDs can achieve a higher peak brightness than that of OLED, but rely on dimming zones

iPad Pro is still the only iPad model to feature a smoother 120Hz ProMotion display, a screen technology that upgrades the 60Hz refresh rate on earlier devices. The new iPhone 13 Pro also features this new technology.

Apple has launched the iPad mini 6 last month which is basically a smaller iPad Air but with an updated A15 Bionic chip and other features acquired from the iPad Pro.
