Instagram is planning to change things up with the home feed as the company is testing new features for the home feed when users open the photo-sharing app.
Instagram has been testing numerous features throughout 2021 and is expected to roll them out this year. According to a video of Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri shared on Twitter on Wednesday, users will be able to change the home feed based on three types:
- Home: This will be the regular home feed that all users are used to
- Favorites: This feed will be a subset of favorite profiles that users pin to their feed, prioritizing them.
- Following: This feed will be a chronological feed of all profiles users follow.
The latter one is pretty interesting because as Mosseri notes “Home is gonna have more and more recommendations over time.” Meaning that Home will feature both following users and recommendations from profiles users don’t follow.
The Favorites feed was reported back in September 2021 on Twitter, the functionality gives users the ability to pin their favorite profiles and see them in chronological order.
Last month in testimony in Congress, Mosseri noted that Instagram is working on bringing back the chronological order. Back then, Mosseri did note the company’s ongoing development of the new feeds.
Finally, Mosseri stated that some of the home feed tests are already rolling out with a debut “in the next couple of weeks” and a full launch in the first half of this year.
Testing Feed Changes ?
We’re starting to test the ability to switch between three different views on your home screen (two of which would give you the option to see posts in chronological order):
– Home
– Favorites
– FollowingWe hope to launch these soon. More to come. ✌? pic.twitter.com/9zvB85aPSp
