We are less than two days away from Apple’s upcoming March 8 event and looks like the final last-minute reports are starting to erupt. As Apple is now further expected to reveal the new 7K external display it is working on.

On March 4th, it was reported that the Cupertino-based giant has been developing a new 7K external display that could revive the Apple Studio Display name. Now, in his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg is stating that the upcoming external display’s development is finished, noting that Apple has “completed work on it months ago”:

“I also wouldn’t rule out Apple previewing its next-generation external display. I’m told Apple actually completed work on it months ago, and the device was due to launch soon after last year’s MacBook Pro. Apple’s last in-house monitor came in 2019 alongside the Intel Mac Pro. A monitor would also explain the ‘peek’ spelling.”

Gurman did not, however, say that Apple is working on a midrange Mac Studio machine that will be a hybrid between the powerful Mac Pro and the low-range Mac mini. Two days ago, the company was also reported that it is working on this new addition to the Mac lineup.

The Bloomberg analyst also notes that Apple has been testing numerous Mac machines that feature the same specs as the expected M2 chip. He is told that the machines are “ready to go”:

“I’m told from a developer source that Apple has been testing multiple Macs with a new chip in recent weeks that includes an eight-core CPU (four efficiency cores and four high-performance cores) and 10 GPU cores. Those are exactly the specifications of the M2 chip I detailed last year.

Apple has been testing this new chip on machines running macOS 12.3 (which should be released in the next week or two and run on the new Macs) and a future macOS 12.4, as well as macOS 13, which will be previewed in June at WWDC 2022.”

Mac miniFinally, Gurman reiterates his statement of Apple releasing new Mac products in the next couple of months, either in May or June. The company will debut some of the announced machines of Tuesday’s event at this timeframe:

“The company will be launching new Macs both at this event and in the May-June timeframe, so it’s likely those new Macs will be spread out across both of those launch periods.”

The Cupertino-based giant is expected to announce four products on Tuesday’s anticipated Peek Performance event:

  • iPhone SE 3
  • 2022 iPad Air 5
  • An entry-level MacBook Pro
  • A new Mac mini
