Apple announced that their recently-launched Self Service Repair will be available for both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the M1 family of chips starting tomorrow. This program has been available for some of the latest iPhone models, including the iPhone 12 and 13, since April, and Apple plans to expand its program to more countries starting in Europe by the end of this year.

This Self Service Repair program covers repairs for more than a dozen components for MacBook Air/Pro such as the Retina Display, the top case with battery, and the advanced Force Touch trackpad. Experienced technicians will have access to the same parts and tools that are used by Apple Store technicians.

This program offers many benefits. For one, customers can now repair their own Apple products at home. Also, Apple designs, engineers, and tests all the repair tools and components thoroughly, so you can assure you’ll get the most reliable experience when repairing your device. The company will offer rental kits for $49 (free shipping included), which will allow customers to save even more money when doing a single repair with those recommended tools. The rental period to access the tool kit is one week.

Customers can visit support.apple.com/self-service-repair to initialize the repair process. Once, they review the repair manual for the selected device, they can visit the Apple Self-Service Repair Store to purchase all the genuine parts and tools they’ll need.

Along with the professional repair providers, the new Self Service Repair program is part of Apple’s efforts to expand its repair services to the public even further.
