Back in March 2020, Apple acquired the Dark Sky Weather app. The following year, the company added many features from Dark Sky to its own default Weather app in iOS 15.
A year later, there is now an official date for the Dark Sky app to shut down for good.
On January 1, 2023, the Dark Sky app will be no more, and users will have to go to alternative weather apps to get the latest weather conditions in their area. Users of the current Dark Sky app have been getting alerts within the app, letting them know of the inevitable end.Â
Additionally, the Dark Sky API is said to be shutting down on March 31, 2023. This is used by other apps such as CARROT Weather that use Dark Sky as a data source.
We reported last month that the app had been pulled from the App Store too.
If you are a user of Dark Sky and still want to use an app that is similar to it, we recommend the default Apple Weather app since it was the one that implemented features specifically from it.
Other weather app alternatives for you could be CARROT Weather, AccuWeather, Weather Underground, and Weather+.

It sucks. We use it every day.
nice post
Terrible Apple would do this for no good reason. Dark Sky was great for many years and there’s no credible reason for Apple to yank it from their users. It’s really poor customer relations.
