If you’re looking to buy a new MacBook, you might want to wait a bit longer. In an exclusive report from 9to5Mac, Apple is planning to update its most popular MacBook Air once again, this time, not only with the upcoming M3 chip but also with two sizes – the 13-inch and 15-inch. In fact, both of those models are already in development with codenames J513 (13-inch) and J515 (15-inch).
Rumors about the upcoming larger MacBook Air have been circulating for years with a recent report from Ming-Chi Kuo saying that Apple could release that model as soon as April with both the M2 and M2 Pro chip options. However, based on 9to5Mac’s sources, we could see a later launch date, but with an updated M3 chip instead.
On the other note, when there’s a chip upgrade for the MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro will receive the same treatment, and this year will be no exception. However, I’d still be disappointed if Apple were to give the 13-inch Pro only a speed bump. I even consider that model to be the strangest MacBook that no one should buy. I still love the 13-inch form factor, but if Apple could bring a modern design to that laptop to make the MacBook lineup more consistent, I’d be satisfied even with the possible price increase.
9to5Mac hasn’t provided any details on when both of those machines will be introduced, but Apple could repeat history again by announcing both of them at WWDC.
