First Impressions: Apple Magic Keyboard for the Mac

Avatar for David Becker

Appleosophy is not my full-time job, so I have worked other jobs over the years to essentially get and maintain a living for myself.

Part of doing that has been working at a job where I was using an old wired Apple keyboard hooked up to a Windows 10 computer. While I could use a standard HP or Dell keyboard, to me, it felt too “corporate” or too “Corporate America.” Those keyboards have also looked and sounded too clunky in my experience too.

Plus, after using a MacBook Pro throughout college, it was hard to go back to a Windows keyboard, not to mention that as a writer, I have to make sure my hands and fingers are comfortable typing. I mean, I typically work 40 hours a week and if that is the case then I will want to use a keyboard that meets my expectations.

Sadly, the wired Apple keyboard I had been using since 2021 that I bought on eBay in late-2020 croaked. Something below the “Return/Enter” key snapped, causing one side of the button to get stuck.

To make a long story short, last week I ended up purchasing the newer Bluetooth Apple Magic Keyboard from my local Best Buy. It was an expensive purchase, yes, but a necessary one.

I have been using the keyboard for the first time this morning and can already notice some good changes.

The first aspect I have found is the keys are bigger than my old keyboard, making it so I can hit the correct key more often than not and have a good amount of travel in between keys. The clicks and clacks from my old Apple keyboard were nice to hear to ear, but the Magic Keyboard is a lot quieter which could be nice if I want or need the quiet if I am overstimulated.

As for the general comfort, it’s nice. It’s new while also being familiar, and at the end of the day, it’s exactly what I wanted. Sure, I had to pay a good amount of money for it, but I look at it as a small investment for myself in order to make me happy and keep me sane while I am at work.

Be sure to stay tuned to Appleosophy in the coming days for my official review of the Apple Magic Keyboard itself.
