Apple is reportedly starting production of the new upcoming generation of the iPhone – iPhone 15, outside of China. It is now being produced in Tamil Nadu, India as part of Apple’s efforts to move its production line to other countries and achieve a more balanced manufacturing operation between China and India, as reported by Bloomberg.

The expansion of the manufacturing of Apple devices comes after the political tensions between the U.S. and Chinese governments. This can create an unreliable and risky situation for the supply chain and the delivery time of the devices. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has maintained a good relationship with the U.S., aiming to establish manufacturing facilities and bring development to his country.

Last year, the company produced 7% of the iPhones in India. The company will try to increase that number if the components produced in their Foxconn Chennai factory are on time.

The base model of the new iPhone 15 will feature, for the first time, Dynamic Island, a 48MP Main Sensor, A16 Bionic Chip, and USB-C. The iPhone 15 Pro on the other hand is expected to feature the A17 Bionic Chip, improved optical zoom, USB-C, an almost bezel-less screen, and a multi-function button that will replace the silence switch.

The investment that Apple made in India, helped the iPhone production reach more than 7 billion in the last fiscal year. Additionally, they opened their first Apple Store in April at the Jio World Drive Mall in Mumbai, India where Apple CEO Tim Cook attended the store’s opening.
