With the next iPad Pro models expected to feature OLED displays for the first time, we have another report from Trendforce that Apple expects sales for the upcoming models to be lower as the company has reduced the number of shipments by 20-30%. The original number of orders was 10 million units, but instead, we should expect to see between 7 million and 8 million of those shipments.

Apple has adopted OLED displays on its devices starting with the Apple Watch in 2015, and later with the iPhones since 2017. Currently, the 11-inch iPad Pro features an LED-backlit LCD while the larger 12.9-inch model features a mini-LED-backlit display. With those models expected to receive the same treatment, we can also expect a huge price bump on both models.

The advancements that Apple will make to its OLED displays will contribute to the price increase. This includes merging a hybrid glass-polyamide film with two stacks of OLED displays to maintain the same level of brightness as that of the current 12.9-inch model. This should help mitigate the potential burn-in issues that have been commonly found in OLED displays.

Other features we can expect are the M3 chip, a landscape Face ID camera system, a redesigned optional Magic Keyboard, and support for the next-generation Apple Pencil 3.
