The last time we saw a new version of watchOS that dropped support for older Apple Watch models was with the release of watchOS 9, which dropped support for Apple Watch Series 3 (introduced in 2017). So both watchOS 9 and watchOS 10 supported Apple Watch Series 4 or later.

Now, a report from iPhoneSoft indicates that watchOS 11 may drop support for Apple Watch Series 4, which was introduced in 2018 and brought the first redesign ever for an Apple Watch. So if that report turns out to be true, here’s an extensive list of all the Apple Watch models that watchOS 11 will support.

  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch SE (first generation)
  • Apple Watch SE (second generation)
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Ultra 2

This report seems to be skeptical because both the Series 4 and Series 5 featured the same processor, so it doesn’t make sense for Apple to drop support for just the Series 4 when it had the same hardware specs as the Series 5 (with a few additions such as the Always On display).

We expect Apple to announce watchOS 11 at WWDC 2024, so we’ll know what the final list of support devices will be.
