Opinion: The one feature I want to see added in tvOS 18

I would argue that tvOS is the best operating system for any smart TV device. And yes, I have used other devices like the Amazon Fire TV and Roku.

But tvOS has one feature that I have literally been wanting for years

We can all appreciate the breathtaking screensavers that tvOS on the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K have had.

However, there is one improvement that could be done with the screensavers and is one that I’d like to see added to tvOS.

The improvement that I would like to see in tvOS is seasonal screensavers. It’s a feature I have been asking Apple to create for almost a decade.

This means that when it is the autumn season, I want to see footage of falling leaves in a wooded area or a walking trail. Maybe perhaps see some falling leaves with some rain too. Perhaps falling snow on leaves as well?

Falling autumn leaves aside, it would be cool to see a flyover a pumpkin or apple orchard.

Outside of autumn, it would be cool to see winter-themed screensavers like falling snow or even seeing a forest area with snow blowing off of the trees. You could additionally do a cabin in a rural area with smoke coming out of the chimney with the lights on inside it.

With a feature like seasonal screensavers on tvOS, I think it is something that could add to the personal experience one can get from using a device like an Apple TV.

As an added bonus just in case someone from Apple reads this, Apple should be adding not only the Apple Weather app to the Apple TV, but add weather-related notifications to tvOS so users can be notified of important and maybe even severe weather conditions. If anything, it could save someone’s life.

Maybe we’ll see at least one of these new features in tvOS 18 at WWDC 2024, where it is expected to be unveiled to the public.
