Confirmed: Home Depot has finally begun accepting Apple Pay in its stores

It has been a long time coming, but we can report and confirm that The Home Depot home improvement stores have begun supporting and accepting Apple Pay.

This comes as a major move by the company, as it has been a long time holdout of the mobile wallets and contactless/tap payment method acceptance for a while. Now customers can pay with Apple Pay from their iPhone and/or Apple Watch when checking out at a Home Depot store.

This has been confirmed to us thanks to a source who provided a photo of the checkout at their nearby Home Depot store where the card reader does mention the word “tap” on it and the Near Field Communications (NFC) icon also appears on said card reader with the green light on it glowing.

Of course, all of that does mean that the store would be accepting and supporting payments via Apple Pay now.

Additionally, those who pay with Apple Card from their iPhone or Apple Watch would get 2% in Daily Cash at stores that currently have Apple Pay support.

The timing of Home Depot accepting Apple Pay is interesting due to the fact that its competitor Lowe’s began accepting it in its app and retail stores last year. On top of that, Menards stores began accepting Apple Pay in 2023 as well.

2024 has been a big year for Apple Pay acceptance as H-E-B’s Central Market stores began accepting Apple Pay this past summer, with plans to potentially add it to regular H-E-B grocery stores. H-E-B has previously been another longtime holdout of Apple Pay support.

With Home Depot beginning the rollout of Apple Pay support at its stores, it may not be an immediate thing where it is available in all stores right now and could be a gradual rollout especially as we head deeper into the fall and holiday season.
