Apple’s second Mac announcement this week — the Mac mini, has introduced support for Thunderbolt 5 supporting transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s, up from 40Gb/s on Thunderbolt 4. Following this, Apple has introduced a new Thunderbolt 5 Cable for the device.
This 1-metre-long cable is priced at $69 on Apple’s Online Store in the U.S. and comes in a braided black finish.
According to Apple, this cable has support for:
- Transfer data at up to 120Gb/s
- USB 4 data transfer at up to 40Gb/s
- DisplayPort 2.1 video output (HBR3)
- Up to 240 watts of power delivery
- Passive cable
- Daisy-chain up to six Thunderbolt (USB-C) devices
Do note that only the Mac mini with the M4 Pro chip supports Thunderbolt 5, while the M4 only supports Thunderbolt 4. Since the Mac mini, which is one of Apple’s baseline Mac offering has Thunderbolt 5, we can assume that the upcoming MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips will also support the same.
Apple’s third announcement of the week is expected tomorrow, and its almost certain that it’ll be the new MacBook Pros.
