With the release of iOS 26 today, Apple has shared more details on the new “Adaptive Power” feature in a new support document, as noted by MacRumors. It turns out that the feature will be enabled out of the box for iPhone 17 models.
The feature requires an iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and later.
According to the document, “Adaptive Power helps extend your iPhone’s battery life when you use it more. It works automatically in the background, so you don’t have to manage it. Adaptive Power uses on-device intelligence to predict when you’ll need extra battery life based on your recent usage patterns and then adjusts as needed to help your battery last longer that day*. Adaptive Power doesn’t manage performance while you use features that require maximum performance, such as when using camera or playing games with Game Mode on.”
To increase the battery life of the iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air further, Adaptive Power will be enabled on these models by default, with an option to turn it off. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 16 lineup support this option, but is turned off by default, and users have to turn it on manually.
Turning this mode on will allow your iPhone to intelligently make performance adjustments, limit background activity, lower the screen brightness by 3%, and turn on low power mode once your battery level touches 20%, all automatically. Once turned on, this feature will analyse your battery usage for at least seven days before it starts working.
To turn on this feature, you can go into Settings>Battery>Power Mode and turn on “Adaptive Power”. You can enable “Adaptive Power Notifications” as well. With this enabled, a notification will be delivered when your iPhone starts using this mode.
If your iPhone is facing battery drain, this new option might just be the solution for you. How excited are you about iOS 26’s new Liquid Glass design?
