macOS 26.3 code seemingly referenced three upcoming Apple products

Macworld’s Filipe Espósito discovered a few codenames within macOS 26.3’s source code that point to three unreleased Apple products:

  • J700: Entry-level MacBook
  • J427: Second-generation Studio Display
  • J527: Higher-end model of the Studio Display

As you may know, both the entry-level “moniker-less” MacBook as well as the next-generation Studio Display have long been rumored, and those codenames also appeared in the source code for macOS 26.2, according to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

Apple publicly released macOS 26.3 last week, and with those codenames referenced, we can assure that those upcoming products are just around the corner, especially when Apple sent out invites to a “special Apple experience”, so Apple will likely introduce this entry-level MacBook the week of March 2, 2026. This MacBook is expected to feature the A18 Pro chip, a 12.9-inch LCD display, and several vibrant colors, including light yellow, light green, and blue.

For the Studio Display, it’s unclear whether Apple will introduce the next-generation Studio Display, but I could see Apple holding off until WWDC 2026 to announce the next Studio Display alongside the next-generation Mac Studio with the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Otherwise, Apple would be announcing too many products in the first week of March, so it would be best for Apple to space out its product launches. The next Studio Display is expected to feature the A19 chip for improved image signal processing in the built-in Center Stage camera and faster display performance thanks to the improved display controller. It will also bring HDR support for the first time as it’s rumored to feature mini-LED technology.

The higher-end Studio Display (J527) seems new to us, but I can see Apple introducing a second, larger Studio Display with mini-LED to replace the aging Pro Display XDR.

We expect Apple to introduce the iPhone 17e, A18 iPad, M4 iPad Air, M5 MacBook Air, MacBook Pros with M5 Pro/M5 Max chips, and the all-new “budget” MacBook in the week of March 2, so this is going to be an exciting, first major launch of new Apple products for 2026.
